William H. Woodin
William Hartman Woodin (May 27, 1868 – May 3, 1934) was a U.S. industrialist. He served as the Secretary of Treasury under Franklin Roosevelt in 1933. He played a significant role in Roosevelt's efforts to combat the Great Depression, including the declaration of a "Bank Holiday" and the decision to withdraw the U.S. from the international gold standard. Despite his impactful contributions, Woodin resigned in December 1933 due to poor health. He also had a successful industrial career, being associated with prominent companies like American Car and Foundry Company and Federal Reserve Bank of New York. |
