The Stokowski website indicates that Stokowski and 85 Hollywood session musicians recorded “The sorcerer’s apprentice” as a soundtrack for what was intended to be a short animation featuring Walt Disney’s character, Mickey Mouse. Disney later expanded the project into a full-length film, “Fantasia,” which included this selection. The soundtrack for the rest of "Fantasia" was recorded in Philadelphia in April 1939 by Stokowski and the Philadelphia Orchestra.
